Play Park

The Queens Park Play Park is situated on the North-Eastern corner of the Park.

Facilities:

The Play Park has play facilities for children in the form of swings, a merry-go-round, a steel jungle gym, a wooden jungle gym, a see-saw, a slide and a scooter track. There is also a wooden pavilion which is very useful for kid's parties.

It is requested that only children under 14 years of age use the swings because otherwise the swings get broken..

There is a public toilet facility in the North-Western corner of the Play Park.

Access to the Play Park is via a gate in Queens Park Avenue, as well as another gate on the palisade fence that connects to the Dog Park. The Play Park is open during daylight hours. More info on the Access page.

Kid's Parties:

A great feature of the Play Park are childrens parties that are organised there. Now that the area is safe, it is an ideal venue, as the public have discovered!

The wooden pavilion is an ideal place to lay out food and party stuff. Booking of this feature is informal, on a first-come, first-occupied basis (so get there early!). Thus far there have been no conflicts.

If you want to run a jumping castle, you will need to bring your own generator because there are no electricity outlets in the Play Park.

The community greatly appreciates those party-organisers who kindly cleanup their litter afterwards!

Other Events:

The Play Park has also been the venue for the Annual General Meetings and Social Braai of UWRA, the Upper Woodstock Residents Association. Because no braai facilities exist at Queens Park, they bring in a braai drum with special permission, cleaning up carefully afterwards. Otherwise braais are generally not encouraged in the area because of the fire hazard and the charcoal mess that left afterwards.

A wild party was once held at the Pavilion by some enthusiastic members of an immigrant community. What was described beforehand as a Jumping Castle turned out to be an amplifier and imported disk-jockey, running at very loud sound levels indeed. After enduring some three hours of this noise, the local residents objected and the SAP came to quieten things down a bit...

Security:

The Play Park is generally very safe nowadays, especially now that a critical mass of respectable visitors has been achieved, and the more who use it, the safer it becomes. There is a group of ladies who meet in the mornings with their children or employers' children most weekdays.

The toilet attendant is in attendance in the daytime.

If you do encounter a security problem, do not confront any villains but call one of the security facilities here.
